Naples in one day: the walking itinerary
Only have one day, perhaps on a cruise stop or a layover? Here is a walking itinerary that takes in the best of Naples: the old centre, the Veiled Christ, pizza, Via Toledo and sunset over the sea.

Morning: the old centre
Start at the Cathedral (Duomo) and walk down Via dei Tribunali to Piazza San Gaetano, then turn into San Gregorio Armeno and come out on Spaccanapoli. Go into the Sansevero Chapel to see the Veiled Christ (booking required, closed on Tuesdays).
Lunch: pizza
A margherita in one of the pizzerias on Via dei Tribunali, or a pizza a portafoglio (pizza folded in four) to eat as you walk.
Afternoon: Santa Chiara, Via Toledo and the Plebiscito
From Piazza del Gesù Nuovo, step into the majolica-tiled cloister of Santa Chiara, then walk down Via Toledo: stop to see the Toledo metro station, cross the Galleria Umberto I and arrive in Piazza del Plebiscito, in front of the Royal Palace.
Sunset: the seafront
Head down to Santa Lucia and walk along the sea to Castel dell'Ovo and the Borgo Marinari. A coffee or a gelato with Vesuvius in front of you rounds off the day.
Tip: if you arrive by ship, Molo Beverello and the Stazione Marittima (cruise terminal) are a short walk from Piazza Municipio: you can do the itinerary in reverse, starting from the Plebiscito.
