The Talented Mr. Ripley and Netflix's Ripley: where they were filmed
The 1999 film created the fictional town of Mongibello by combining Ischia and Procida, with more scenes in Naples. The 2024 Netflix series moves to Atrani and Capri instead, so these are two different trips.

The 1999 film: Ischia
- Ischia Ponte, the bus square below the Aragonese Castle: Tom arrives in Mongibello.
- Bagno Antonio, Lungomare Cristoforo Colombo, between Ischia Porto and Ischia Ponte: Tom meets Dickie and Marge. It is a private beach club, so check it is open first.
- Palazzo Malcovati, Via Luigi Mazzella: Dickie's house. It is private and you can't go in.
- Piazza Malcovati, on the waterfront: the festival of the Madonna, where Silvana's body is found.
The 1999 film: Procida
- Via San Rocco, at Corricella: Dickie rides his scooter and meets Silvana.
- Piazza dei Martiri, at the top of the street: Mongibello's main square, where Dickie refuses to go back to New York.
These are the same public spots as in Il Postino.
The 1999 film: Naples
- Galleria Principe di Napoli, facing the Archaeological Museum, metro Museo or Cavour: Dickie collects his allowance here. Sources give no opening hours.
- Teatro San Carlo: stands in for the Rome opera house. To go inside, see the programme.
Some scenes set in Naples were shot elsewhere: Tom's arrival in Palermo, the Vesuvio nightclub in Rome.
The 2024 Netflix series
- Atrani: director Steven Zaillian chose it as Dickie's town. Ripley arrives below the Collegiata di Santa Maria Maddalena and climbs a long flight of steps. Piazzetta Umberto and the beach also appear.
- Hotel Miramare: it doesn't exist in Atrani. The entrance is a former convent and the room is in a private home.
- Villa Torricella, Capri: Dickie's house, which the story places in Atrani. It stands above Marina Grande and you can spot its towers from the sea. It is private, with no tours; in 2024 part of it was listed on Airbnb.
- Naples: the Rione Sanità, Via dei Tribunali, Palazzo Sanfelice (a Palermo hotel in the series), Palazzo delle Poste (the American Express office) and Pio Monte della Misericordia with its Caravaggio.
- Maiori and the port of Pozzuoli are among the other locations.
Italy for Movies does not list Ischia or Procida among the series' sets. SiViaggia names Ischia, but with no scenes.

- Day one, Ischia: Ischia Ponte, Piazza Malcovati, Via Mazzella, then Lungomare Colombo.
- Day two, Procida: hydrofoil from Ischia, Corricella, Via San Rocco, Piazza dei Martiri.

Atrani is a separate trip, on the Amalfi Coast.
Tip: for Ischia, pick a boat to Ischia Porto, not Casamicciola or Forio. The film locations are between the Porto and Ponte.

- Ischia: hydrofoil from Beverello or Mergellina, about 1 hour. Ferry from Porta di Massa, about 1 hour 30.
- Procida: hydrofoil about 40 minutes, ferry about 1 hour.
- Capri: hydrofoil from Beverello, about 50 minutes.
- Atrani: reach Amalfi by SITA bus from Salerno or, in season, by boat from Beverello, then take the SITA bus. Check times on the SITA Sud website.
