Ferries and hydrofoils from Naples to Capri, Ischia and Procida
Capri, Ischia and Procida are less than an hour from Naples. The key is choosing the right port and the right boat: a fast hydrofoil, or a ferry that is slower but takes cars and large luggage. Here is how to find your way.

Hydrofoil or ferry?
- The hydrofoil (or fast boat) is the quickest option and the one almost all visitors use. It leaves from Molo Beverello and, for Ischia and Procida, also from Mergellina. It costs more and is less stable in rough seas.
- The ferry is slower and a little cheaper, has plenty of open-air deck space and is the only way to take a car. It leaves from Calata Porta di Massa.
Which port to leave from
| Port | Boats | Islands | Getting there |
|---|---|---|---|
| Molo Beverello | hydrofoils | Capri, Ischia, Procida (and in season Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi) | metro Line 1 Municipio; Alibus from the airport |
| Calata Porta di Massa | ferries | Capri, Ischia, Procida | about 10 minutes on foot from Beverello; Alibus stop Immacolatella |
| Mergellina | hydrofoils | mainly Ischia and Procida | metro Line 2 Mergellina |
Metro Line 1 takes you to Municipio stop, right in front of the port. From the Central Station and the airport there is the Alibus, which stops at Immacolatella and at Molo Beverello.
Practical tips
- Buy your ticket in advance in high season and at weekends, on the company's website or at the ticket offices in the port: morning sailings fill up.
- Arrive 20–30 minutes early: at Beverello the ticket offices and boarding areas can be crowded.
- Check the weather: in rough seas, especially in winter, hydrofoils may be cancelled. The ferry is more reliable.
- Outward and return with different companies: you can, but return tickets are only valid with the company that issued them.
- Day trips: Capri and Procida work well as day trips from Naples; Ischia is big and deserves at least one night.
Tip: to stay somewhere convenient and catch the morning hydrofoil without stress, choose accommodation between Toledo, Municipio and the port: you can walk to Molo Beverello.
Timetables
Timetables change between summer and winter and sometimes from one day to the next. Always check them on the companies' websites before you set off: Caremar, SNAV, Alilauro, NLG, Medmar.
