The concert in Piazza del Plebiscito
For years New Year's Eve in Naples has centred on Piazza del Plebiscito, the huge square in front of the Royal Palace, with a free concert by Italian and Neapolitan artists. For New Year 2025–2026 the concert ran from 21:00 to 2:00, with guests such as Elodie and Serena Brancale, and the programme included other events on the days before and on 1 January.
The 2026–2027 programme has not been announced yet: the City of Naples usually presents it in December. This page will be updated as soon as it is published.
Where to watch the fireworks
At midnight the official fireworks are usually concentrated in front of Castel dell'Ovo and along Via Partenope. You get a good view from the whole seafront, from Mergellina and from up high, on the terraces of Vomero and Posillipo. All over the city, Neapolitans also set off their own fireworks from balconies and terraces: it's quite a show, but also the reason to be careful in the streets around midnight.
Tip: if you want the fireworks without the crush of the concert, go up to Vomero (Largo San Martino, the Sant'Elmo viewpoint) or walk along Via Caracciolo towards Mergellina. Get there early: after 23:00 the best spots are full.
Getting around on the night of the 31st
- The centre becomes pedestrian-only around Piazza del Plebiscito and the seafront: you can only get there on foot or by public transport.
- The metro and funiculars usually run later on New Year's Eve: check the ANM and Metro Napoli notices in the days before.
- Taxis are few and in high demand after midnight: it's better to stay in an area you can walk back to.
What people eat
The New Year's Eve dinner (cenone di San Silvestro) is usually fish-based, with lentils and cotechino (a large pork sausage) for luck at midnight, and the festive sweets: struffoli (honey-coated dough balls), roccocò and mostaccioli.
