What is the Sirens' Bowl
- It is a lekane, a footed basin with a decorated lid, painted in the red-figure style with white touches.
- It dates from the second half of the 4th century BC and the museum attributes it to a Campanian workshop.
- The lid shows two symmetrical sirens among palmettes and plant motifs: one plays the cetra (lyre), the other the aulos, a double flute.
According to the museum, the two figures are spirits guiding the dead to the afterlife. From 3 April to 21 September 2026 the vase was on show at MANN in Naples, in the exhibition «Parthenope. La Sirena e la città».
