Where Gomorrah the series was filmed: Scampia, the Vele and what to know
Gomorrah was filmed mainly in Scampia and Secondigliano, on the northern edge of Naples, and in other neighborhoods and towns around the city, with some scenes abroad. Scampia is a place where people live, not a film set. This page explains where the series was shot, what is left of the Vele, and why we don't recommend Gomorrah tours.

Where it was filmed
- Scampia: the Vele, a 1960s public housing complex, are the series' best-known location.
- Secondigliano: the other neighborhood at the heart of the story, north of the city.
- Other parts of Naples: Gianturco, for the opening petrol station scene, Ponticelli, the Centro Direzionale and Chiaiano cemetery.
- Around Naples: San Vitaliano and Castel Volturno, where the Villaggio Coppola was used. Genny's nightclub is in Caserta.
- Abroad: the production also shot in Bulgaria, London and Barcelona.
Season 3 alone used more than 160 locations. Many scenes take place on streets and in buildings where people live and work, so we don't list addresses.
The prequel Gomorrah: The Origins came out on Sky on 9 January 2026 and is set in 1977. It was filmed mainly in Naples, especially San Giovanni a Teduccio, with some scenes in Portici.
The Vele today
There were originally seven Vele. Most are gone:
| Building | Status |
|---|---|
| Vela Verde | Demolished in 2020 |
| Vela Gialla | Demolition began on 10 March 2025 |
| Vela Rossa | Demolition began on 17 December 2025; partial collapse on 19 May 2026, no injuries |
| Vela Celeste | The only one left, declared unsafe, to be converted for social use |
In July 2024 a walkway collapse at the Vela Celeste killed three people. For the neighborhood, this is recent grief.
The Restart Scampia project plans new homes, services and public spaces. According to Avvenire (3 October 2026) there will be about 500 new homes, with a first group handed over between late 2026 and early 2027. The residents' committee stresses that services and jobs are needed too. Sources give 2027 or 2028 for the end of the works.
Why it isn't a set to tour
In 2020 the newspaper Il Giornale reported on tourists coming to Scampia to see the Vele. Graffiti on the walls read "Le vele non sono uno zoo" (the Vele are not a zoo) and "Non siamo Gomorra" (we are not Gomorrah). The Comitato Vele, a residents' group, said people resented being photographed like monkeys in a zoo.
That is why we don't recommend tours based on the series, don't point out buildings, and ask you not to photograph residents or their homes. The Camorra has real victims. This isn't just a story here.
If you want to get to know Scampia
Scampia has another story, told by the people who live there:
- Piscinola-Scampia metro station: the end of Line 1. Since 2013 the station has displayed works by Felice Pignataro, the neighborhood's muralist.
- Jorit's mural: a tribute to Pier Paolo Pasolini on the outside of the Line 1 station.
- Officina delle Culture: a former vocational school reclaimed by volunteers, now home to several local associations.
- Gridas: a cultural association started in 1981 by Felice Pignataro. It has been behind the Scampia Carnival since 1983.
Tip: Officina and Gridas are community groups, not attractions with opening hours. If you'd like to go, contact them first and ask about an open event or activity.
