The Navy base and Molo San Vincenzo

The prison set stands inside the base, with the Maschio Angioino castle in the background. Do not expect to see it: this is a military area and there is no free entry.

There have been a few special openings. The FAI Spring Days opened the base in March 2024, and guided walks with booking took place in 2024 and 2025.

Sources disagree about Molo San Vincenzo. Italia.it, the national tourism portal, calls it accessible. Napolike wrote in August 2026 that it is normally closed to the public. In January 2026 the mayor announced it would reopen soon, with no date. Check the City of Naples website before you go.

Tip: the Molosiglio gardens are right by the base area. Take Metro Line 1 to Municipio, then walk towards the sea.

A walk through the centre

  1. Toledo station, Metro Line 1: it appears in the first episode.
  2. Spaccanapoli and San Gregorio Armeno, Gaetano's alleys.
  3. Porta San Gennaro, where you will find the Capasso pizzeria from the series.
  4. Head back by metro: Cavour on Line 2 is the handiest stop.

Further out

Recent seasons also filmed in Rione Luzzatti and Ascarelli, in Fuorigrotta and on Piazza Lobianco. These are residential areas, so do not photograph people or homes, and stay out of courtyards.

Frequently asked questions

Where is The Sea Beyond (Mare Fuori) filmed?

The prison exteriors are shot at the Italian Navy base on Via Acton in Naples, not on Nisida. Other scenes were filmed at Toledo station, in the old town, in Bagnoli, at Gaiola, in Bacoli, in Castel Volturno, in Rione Luzzatti and Ascarelli and in Fuorigrotta.

Can you visit the prison from The Sea Beyond?

No. The set is inside a military base, and the real juvenile institute on Nisida is not open to visitors. The base has opened only on special occasions, such as the FAI Spring Days in 2024.

Is The Sea Beyond filmed on Nisida?

The series is inspired by the Nisida juvenile institute, but the prison you see on screen is shot at the Navy base near the Maschio Angioino.

Is Molo San Vincenzo open to the public?

There is no clear answer: 2026 sources disagree and we found no official opening hours. Check the City of Naples website before you go.

Which The Sea Beyond locations are free?

The old town alleys, San Gregorio Armeno and Porta San Gennaro are public streets. Gaiola is also listed as free, with controlled access. At Toledo station you need a metro ticket to go beyond the gates.
