What to know

In summer the buses are small and full and sometimes skip the intermediate stops. For short hops, in Capri you walk.

Boats and walking

Since summer 2026 organised groups cannot exceed 40 people; above 20, earpieces are required and loudspeakers and guides' umbrellas are banned.

Tip: if you arrive at 10:00 with a wheeled suitcase, the queue for the funicular can last almost an hour. Leave your bags with the porters at the pier and go up hands-free.

Frequently asked questions

Can you take a car to Capri?

No, not if you are a non-resident, from 30 March to 2 November 2026 and from 28 December 2026 to 3 January 2027 (decree of the Campania Region). Even outside those dates a car is pointless: narrow roads and very little parking.

How much is the Capri funicular?

€2.40 a ride. It climbs from Marina Grande to the Piazzetta in about 4 minutes, from 6:25 to 21:20. It has been running since 1907.

Why are Capri's taxis open-top?

They are cars with the roof cut off or replaced by canvas, an island tradition: with narrow roads, sunshine and views, you travel in the open air.

What is the landing fee?

A municipal tax for people arriving on the island: €5 from 1 April to 31 October and €2.50 the rest of the year. It is already included in your hydrofoil or ferry ticket.
