Tips for visiting
- First Sundays: state museums are free on 6 December and 3 January, and also on 1 and 4 November. This covers Capodimonte, Pompeii and the Royal Palace of Caserta.
- Gallerie d'Italia: free on the first Sunday of the month and always for under-26s.
- Archetipi: closed on Tuesdays and on the Royal Palace's free days.
- Pompeii: until 15 March last entry is at 15:30. For the free days see our guide to free entry at Pompeii.
- Closing days: Madre and the Royal Palace of Caserta on Tuesdays, Capodimonte on Wednesdays, Gallerie d'Italia on Mondays.
- Shorter hours: the Mazzacurati show opens Monday to Friday, 11:00–17:00, except public holidays and the days before them. On Sundays Pio Monte closes at 14:30; Villa Pignatelli opens 9:30–17:00.
- Madre: the second floor is temporarily closed to visitors, so check before you go.
Tip: to see all three Madre exhibitions together, go by 9 November: after that they close one at a time.
