Street food in Naples: cuoppo, frittatina, taralli and what to try
In Naples you can eat brilliantly on the move: the friggitorie (fry shops) in the centre make cuoppi of fried snacks, pasta frittatine and crocchè, and every neighbourhood has its taralli stall. Here's what to try.

What to try
- The cuoppo: a paper cone full of fried food. There's the land version (potato crocchè, zeppoline made from risen dough, arancini, panzarotti) and the sea version (anchovies, squid, small prawns).
- The frittatina di pasta: bucatini with béchamel, peas and meat, breaded and fried. It's the symbol of the Neapolitan friggitoria.
- Crocchè: potato croquettes with cheese.
- Pizza fritta (fried pizza) and pizza a portafoglio (a small pizza folded in four to eat as you walk).
- Taralli sugna e pepe, made with lard, pepper and almonds, to munch on the seafront.
- The sandwich with sausage and friarielli, the local turnip tops sautéed in a pan.
Tip: the best friggitorie are the ones with freshly fried food and a queue of Neapolitans outside. In the Historic Centre, between Via dei Tribunali and Spaccanapoli, you'll find plenty; taralli are a classic for a stroll along the seafront.
