What to try
- Ravioli capresi: egg-free pasta filled with caciotta cheese, parmesan and marjoram, served with tomato sauce.
- Caprese salad: tomato, mozzarella, basil and olive oil. It was born here and it is the yardstick of every trattoria.
- Torta caprese: almonds and chocolate, no flour. There is also a white version with lemon.
- Pezzogna: blackspot sea bream, cooked all'acqua pazza (poached in a light tomato broth) or baked with potatoes.
- Limoncello: made from the lemons of the peninsula and the island, served chilled at the end of the meal.
Where
In the Piazzetta and on Via Camerelle you mostly pay for the location. To eat well at a fair price, go down to Marina Grande, up to Anacapri or walk towards the Arco Naturale. From April to October always book for dinner; from November to March check first that the place is open.
Tip: at lunchtime do as the islanders do: a plate of ravioli or a caprese, then an ice cream. Save the big dinner for the evening, when the island empties.
